October 13, 2024 Hurricane Helene Aftermath Update

I have severely neglected this blog but intended to get back to it after I left running Abyss & Apex. At the moment, since Facebook seems to be throttling my posts about the victims of Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina (and to a lesser extent in the mountains of eastern Tennessee) I’ll post those updates here with a link on Facebook in my comments. Please understand that this storm was worse than Hurricane Katrina.

I apologize for this guy’s language but he’s correct to be upset if what he says is true. I’m pretty sure you may have to download Telegram to watch it, and that may not appeal to you, so I gave a synopsis below it. 5 minutes, 23 seconds.

TLDR: Basically, he is claiming that volunteers set up relief for the people of Barnersville NC and the local sheriff told them to stop. He claims that the people in Barnersville lost literally everything. He cites no help from FEMA and accuses FEMA of saying “there was no devastation west of Asheville” and claims that’s not at all true. And he excoriates the governor of North Carolina for not even starting to react to the crisis until three days after it happened. He thanks ranchers in Wyoming and Ohio for sending hay for any affected animals (horses. cows, etc.) and reminds us that winter is coming.

A quick word to those who’ve said (and they have said it to me) that, “that person obviously has electricity and internet so all they are saying must be lies.” Of course those who’ve lost everything are not the ones posting these! But friends who have power and are outside of the victims’ area like me (I have friends up there!) are doing the job mainstream media is refusing to do. I want to reemphasize that this storm was worse than Hurricane Katrina. Nevertheless, the mainstream journalists are not really touching it, for whatever reason. Rebuilding–heck, finding the bodies–will take years. We should not forget them.
